Fragrance Creators Association Comments during the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Public Meeting on Over-the-Counter Monograph User Fees

On September 28, Dan Selechnik, PhD, Fragrance Creators' Director of Regulatory Science, spoke on behalf of the association during the FDA Public Meeting on Over-the-Counter (OTC) Monograph User Fees.

In his statement, Dan emphasized the benefits and safety of fragrance, which serves as an inactive ingredient in various OTC topical skin products. These products include sunscreens, antiperspirants, skin protectants, and antimicrobial and anti-acne washes and creams.

He pointed out the significant role of fragrance in these products. It not only encourages proper use but also empowers consumer confidence. Moreover, it brings generational delight to billions daily. Dan also briefed the attendees about the fragrance industry’s comprehensive safety program overseen by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials, Inc. (RIFM).

RIFM is a nonprofit scientific organization dedicated to supporting the global fragrance industry in ensuring the safe use of fragrance materials. They conduct extensive scientific programs, maintain the world's most comprehensive database on fragrance materials, and provide education and insights on relevant scientific and safety issues.

Fragrance Creators believes regulations should prioritize human and environmental health, encourage companies of all sizes to bring newer, safer, greener innovation to market, and support consumers access to affordable products.

The association reaffirms its commitment to serving as a resource to the FDA on all fragrance-related matters.
